About Us

Towerview ranch is owned and operated by Gary who has been in the cattle business for some 40 years. He loves the ranch life and the cattle that are raised here, his passion runs deep with the Gelbvieh breed and is focused on improving the herd every year.

Gary was an active volunteer for our local stampede but has now stepped aside because of his hearing loss. He has also volunteered time on the Gelbvieh association of Alberta/B.C board of directors. Following in her husband's footsteps, Kerry was recently elected to the Gelbvieh Association for Alberta/BC Board of Directors.

Daily operations of a physical sort are handled by Marc van Ewijk, our son-in-law. His attention to detail and ensuring things are run efficiently is amazing. He has a real passion for our cattle, including our other livestock.

In the summer of 2023 Gary and Kerry decided to produce hydroponically grown fodder for their cattle because they could control the environment, thus reducing their need to purchase feed on years of low moisture or less than desirable growing conditions. Producing their own fodder will reduce feed costs, mineral and supplement costs, plus wear and tear on farm equipment. Their cattle will be healthier and are more attractive to potential buyers. It will enable them to be self-sufficient and will increase their productivity. It gives them the opportunity to irrigate a feed crop because they are dryland and have no access to irrigation. This highly efficient system uses towers that hold trays for the barley seed to grow on without the need for soil and an automated irrigation system provides the seeds with water, rotating up to 6 times per day. Fodder provides valuable nutrition when fresh pasture is not available or when feed crops fail. Fodder produced from barley seed has an increased amount of protein, is easier for cattle to digest, they eat less and therefore produce 20% less manure and it increases fertility by reducing dietary starches. It also boosts the animals' immune system which leads to increased longevity and improves their behaviour and temperament.

The rest of the family at Towerview are involved with their own life and jobs but will not turn down a chance to come help out or look after things if we are away. Their love for each other and the animals here is such amazing thing to see.

Gary and Kerry are truly blessed to have a lifestyle they love and are so proud of the family around them.

Life is good at Towerview Ranch!
